Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has pledged swift investigation and trial over the brutal rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in the capital’s Pallabi area, saying such brutal crimes will not go “unchallenged”.

Speaking at the ministry on Thursday (21 May), he said the government is committed to ensuring speedy justice and setting a precedent through the case.

He added that incidents like the killings of Asiya in Magura and Ramisa in Dhaka raise serious questions about humanity.

The minister said police have been instructed to submit the investigation report within a week, and the trial will be held at the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.

He stressed that there is no need to transfer the case to a speedy trial tribunal and expressed hope that justice would be delivered quickly to restore public confidence in the judicial system.

He also said withdrawal of rape cases will no longer be considered under any circumstances and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fast-tracking justice.
