The Ministry of Public Administration has issued a gazette notification declaring a seven-day holiday for Eid-ul-Azha, one of the largest religious festivals for Muslims.

According to the notification, all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous and private offices across the country will remain closed from 25 May (Monday) to 31 May (Sunday) on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.

The government has also cancelled the weekly holiday on Saturday (23 May).

The decision regarding the extended Eid holiday was finalised at a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday (14 May).

The notification stated that emergency services — including electricity, water, gas and other fuel supplies, fire service operations, port activities, sanitation services, telephone and internet services, postal services, as well as vehicles and personnel engaged in these sectors — will remain outside the purview of the holiday.

Hospitals, emergency services and employees associated with those services will also remain exempt from the holiday, the notification added.
