A court in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday sentenced four people to death in connection with the murder of army officer Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar Nirjon in Chakaria’s Dulahazara last year.
Judge Mohammad Abul Monsur Siddiqui of the Fifth Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court announced the verdict.
The court also sentenced five other accused to life imprisonment, while four received 10-year jail terms. However, five accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
Of the 18 accused in the case, 12 were present in the court during the delivery of the verdict.
Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar was killed on 24 September 2024 after being stabbed by assailants in the East Maizpara area of Dulahazara union in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The killing had sparked widespread outrage and drew attention across the country following the death of the young army officer.
