The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 today sent former vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), Professor Dr Md Hasibur Rashid, to jail after showing him arrested in the case lodged over the killing of Abu Sayed during the July Mass Uprising.

“Dr Md Hasibur Rashid was convicted and sentenced to 10 years' jail in the case on April 9, 2026. He was tried in absentia. A team from Mohammadpur Police Station arrested him yesterday, and he was produced before the tribunal today. The tribunal sent him to jail with the conviction warrant,” said prosecutor Faruk Ahmed.

While replying to a question from a newsman, the prosecutor said the convict will be able to file an appeal against his conviction as the full text of the judgment has not yet been released.

“He would be able to file the appeal within three days of getting the certified copy of the judgment,” the prosecutor added.

The second tribunal on April 9, 2026, convicted and sentenced two former policemen to death and 28 others to various jail terms in a crimes-against-humanity case filed over the killing of BRUR student Abu Sayed.
