“People-Friendly Land Service is One of the Key Pillars of Building a Modern Bangladesh” — Divisional Commissioner.
A three-day ‘Land Service Fair’ has been inaugurated in Chattogram as part of a nationwide initiative under the slogan, “Citizen-Friendly Automated Land Management, Secure Land, Prosperous Future.”
Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin said that people-friendly land service is one of the key pillars in building a modern Bangladesh. To reduce public suffering in land management services, the government and the Ministry of Land are working to digitize land-related services so that citizens can access them easily from home without visiting government offices.
On Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman virtually inaugurated the three-day nationwide fair from the Land Building in Tejgaon, Dhaka. Following the virtual inauguration, the Chattogram segment of the fair was officially launched at the Circuit House premises through a colorful rally, ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the release of balloons and pigeons.
During the opening ceremony, five landless individuals received settlement deeds for agricultural khas land, while several service seekers were handed land records (Khatian). One elderly citizen, Muhammad Shawkat Alam from Hathazari, who had mistakenly applied for land records under the wrong mouza name, received immediate assistance at the fair and successfully obtained his corrected documents. He later expressed gratitude to the district administration for the prompt support.
Quiz competitions involving students from various educational institutions and a seminar titled “Automated Land Management System: Transformation, Development and Future Roadmap” were also organized as part of the event. Later, the Divisional Commissioner and other guests visited different stalls at the fair.
Addressing the discussion session, the Divisional Commissioner said the fair aims to ensure transparent and harassment-free land services for citizens. He expressed hope that ongoing technological transformation would eventually free service seekers from the need for physical presence at offices.
Speaking as the chair of the event, Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah said ensuring citizen-friendly land service is a legitimate public demand. He noted that the government has already taken effective measures to ensure transparency and eliminate harassment in land management services.
He also emphasized the importance of adapting to technology and said the administration is committed to providing quick and efficient services through automated systems. According to him, most complaints received from expatriates and citizens are related to land disputes and land management issues. He added that if citizens at home and abroad receive hassle-free services, the initiative will be considered successful.
The event, moderated by Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Bakalia Circle Shifat Binte Ara, was attended by special guests including Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, Sharmin Jahan and Md. Nazimul Haque.
Welcome remarks were delivered by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Sakhawat Jamil Soikat, while Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Katoli Circle Husain Muhammad presented on automated land management.
In her speech, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Sharmin Jahan said the primary goal of the fair is to raise public awareness and deliver land-related services directly to citizens’ doorsteps through digital transformation and automation.
The fair will conclude on May 21 with a public debate competition, prize-giving ceremony, cultural awareness program, and closing event. State Minister for the Ministry of Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin is expected to attend the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
