Exchange Meeting Between CU Administration and Bangladesh Railway Delegation

An exchange meeting was held between the administration of the University of Chittagong and a delegation from Bangladesh Railway (Eastern Zone) at 11:00 AM on Monday (May 4) at the Vice-Chancellor’s office.

The meeting was chaired by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan. The railway delegation was led by the General Manager (Eastern Zone), Md. Subaktagin. Among those present were Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, along with relevant university officials and representatives of CUCSU.

During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor exchanged introductions and inquired about all aspects of the shuttle train service. He stated that the shuttle train is the primary mode of transportation for the majority of students at the University of Chittagong. He requested the railway authorities to ensure a more convenient, comfortable, and efficient service. He also urged immediate steps to resolve existing challenges based on student needs and emphasized preventing any inconvenience in shuttle operations.

CUCSU representatives raised several important issues, including increasing the number of shuttle trains, introducing a double railway line, removing illegal structures along both sides of the tracks, increasing the number of coaches and engines, controlling unauthorized passengers, strengthening security measures, improving power-car facilities, preventing stone-throwing incidents and schedule disruptions, and upgrading station facilities.

The railway authorities assured that initiatives would be taken soon to increase the number of coaches and engines. They mentioned that while some measures can be implemented in the short term, others will take time due to practical constraints, and not everything can be executed immediately despite goodwill.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed his gratitude to all attendees. The visiting delegation also thanked him and assured their full cooperation.

Also present at the meeting were CU Proctor Professor Dr. Hossain Shahid Sarowardi, Assistant Proctor Dr. Md. Kamrul Hossain, Comptroller Md. Amirul Islam, CUCSU General Secretary Saeed Bin Habib, Assistant General Secretary Aiyubur Rahman Taufiq, Communication and Accommodation Secretary Md. Ishaq Bhunya, and Assistant Secretary Waidul Salman.

Members of the railway delegation included Divisional Railway Manager Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, Chief Engineer (East) Md. Tanvirul Islam, Chief Mechanical Engineer (East) Sadekur Rahman, Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer (East) Tarek Mohammad Shams Tushar, Chief Operating Superintendent (East) Mohammad Shafiqul Rahman, Chief Commercial Manager (East) Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Chief Electrical Engineer (East) Muhammad Shafiqul Rahman, Chief Commandant RNB (East) Md. Zahirul Islam, and Superintendent of Police, Chattogram Railway Police, Tahura Jannat.
