Dialysis services have been officially launched for the first time in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the 250-bed Chattogram General Hospital, fulfilling a long-standing demand. The inauguration took place on Sunday morning, with Member of Parliament for Chattogram-9, Md. Abu Sufian, attending as the chief guest.

Following the inauguration, a discussion meeting was held at the hospital’s conference room. In his speech, MP Abu Sufian said that the installation of the dialysis machine would significantly benefit kidney patients by making essential treatment more accessible. He also mentioned that there are plans to establish a dedicated dialysis unit for kidney patients at the hospital in phases.

He further stated that the government is working to bring healthcare services to people’s doorsteps and assured that necessary allocations for the development of the health sector in Chattogram would be prioritized. He expressed optimism that visible improvements in healthcare services at both Chattogram General Hospital and Chattogram Medical College Hospital would be achieved within the next six months.

Highlighting the importance of private initiatives, the MP noted that the dialysis machine was installed with the support of social worker and businessman Anamul Haque Iqbal. He appreciated such humanitarian contributions and called for continued support from private entrepreneurs to address challenges in the healthcare sector.

The meeting was chaired by the hospital’s Superintendent and Associate Professor of Cardiology, Dr. Md. Ekram Hossain. The event was conducted by Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology Dr. Moumita Das and Surgery Ward Registrar Dr. Sakib Ziauddin Md. Chowdhury.

Special guests included Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Chattogram Medical College Hospital and Joint Secretary General of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), Dr. Belayet Hossain Dhali; General Secretary of DAB Chattogram Metropolitan, Dr. A.S.M. Iftekharul Islam Liton; social worker Anamul Haque Iqbal, among others. Doctors, nurses, and hospital staff were also present at the event.
