Two large vessels carrying a total of 53,600 tonnes of diesel from China and India have arrived at Chattogram Port, boosting the country’s fuel reserves.
According to relevant sources, the shipment is sufficient to ensure uninterrupted diesel supply for four days, against the country’s daily demand of around 12,500 tonnes.
Shipping agents and port sources said the first consignment arrived from China. The Liberia-flagged vessel Lila Kingston, carrying 19,000 tonnes of diesel, anchored at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port at 3:00pm on Friday.
Early on Saturday, the Panama-flagged vessel PVT Solana, carrying 34,600 tonnes of diesel from India, reached the Kutubdia anchorage.
Nazrul Islam, Managing Director of Pride Shipping Line, the local agent of the vessels, said two ships are currently discharging fuel at the Dolphin Jetty. Two more vessels are waiting at the outer anchorage, while lightering operations are ongoing from another ship.
“With the arrival of these two vessels, the total number of fuel-laden ships at the port has now reached seven,” he added.
