Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has said the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka will be inaugurated on 16 December this year, with necessary preparations already underway to meet the deadline.
He made the remarks at a press conference held at the Department of Information on Tuesday (19 May) to highlight various activities of the government.
The minister also said the country currently has an adequate stock of fuel oil. Despite abnormal increases in global fuel prices, he said, domestic prices had been kept at a tolerable level.
Referring to the spread of measles, Swapon blamed the negligence of the previous government, saying the nation is now paying the price for it.
“After assuming office, the current government has procured the necessary vaccines,” he said, adding that the distribution of health cards would begin soon.
Speaking about the media sector, the minister said a chaotic situation was prevailing in media management, prompting the government to take steps to form a Media Commission.
“A committee will be formed by June, and a report in this regard will be submitted to the Prime Minister by July,” he said.
The minister further said the government is planning to complete all local government elections across the country within the next year.
