The meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee will be held on Monday (18 May) to observe the crescent moon of the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1447 Hijri and determine the date of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. The date of Eid will be announced from this meeting.
According to a press release issued by the Public Relations Wing of the Islamic Foundation, the meeting will be held at 6:45pm on Monday at the Islamic Foundation conference room at Baitul Mukarram, under the chairmanship of the Minister for Religious Affairs, Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad.
The press release also stated that if the Dhul-Hijjah moon is sighted anywhere in the sky of Bangladesh, people are requested to contact the telephone numbers 02-41053294, 02-226640510, and 02-223383397.
In addition, if the moon is sighted, it has been requested to inform the respective district commissioner or upazila executive officer.
Meanwhile, the crescent moon of Dhul-Hijjah has been sighted in Saudi Arabia. As a result, Eid-ul-Azha will be observed there on May 27. Accordingly, Eid in Bangladesh is likely to fall on May 28.
Furthermore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, and Brunei, the largest Muslim-majority countries, have also confirmed sighting the Dhul-Hijjah moon. These countries will also celebrate Eid on May 27.
