Two people were killed after a fish-laden truck rammed into a truck carrying tree saplings on the Atadi flyover of the Bhanga Expressway in Faridpur on Monday (May 18).
The accident occurred around 5:30am on the Dhaka-bound lane. Police said the deceased were the driver and helper of the fish-laden truck.
One of the deceased was identified as Md Shamin, 30, a resident of Chachra village under Kotwali Police Station in Jashore. He was the driver of the fish-laden truck. The identity of the other deceased, believed to be around 28 years old and working as the helper, could not be confirmed immediately.
According to police and local sources, a Dhaka-bound truck loaded with tree saplings was moving slowly on the Atadi flyover when a speeding fish-laden truck approaching from behind lost control and crashed into it. The front portion of the fish-laden truck was badly mangled in the collision, killing the driver and helper on the spot.
After being informed, police from Bhanga Highway Police Station rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and seized the two damaged trucks.
Confirming the matter, Sub-Inspector (SI) Sohel Khan of Bhanga Highway Police Station said legal procedures related to the incident were underway. Vehicular movement on the expressway remains normal.
