Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been put on alert over possible “push-in” concerns along the border, although he believes such incidents are unlikely to occur.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday after the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital, he said necessary instructions had already been issued to the border force.
“We have already directed BGB to remain vigilant along the border. However, I do not see any strong possibility of such incidents. If anything happens, they are prepared to address it,” he said in response to a question regarding potential push-ins following political developments in India’s West Bengal.
Responding to another query, the minister said authorities have been instructed to review thousands of cases filed during the interim government period within a month and submit verified information. Cases, including those filed against journalists, will also undergo scrutiny.
He further noted that discussions were held on withdrawing “fictitious cases” filed during the tenure of the previous government, indicating that the matter is under consideration.
