A Patuakhali court today sent a madrasa teacher to jail in a case filed over the sexual abuse of a 10-year-old student in Patuakhali's Rangabali.
Patuakhali Senior Judicial Magistrate passed the order after police produced the accused, Hafez Shafiqul Islam Jisan, 20, of Barishal, before the court this afternoon, said Rangabali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Ilias Hossain Munshi.
He added that the case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000.
He was arrested around 12:00pm yesterday, after locals and the victim's family confined him inside the madrasa.
According to police, the incident occurred early yesterday around 12:30am when Jisan asked the Hifz department student to visit his room.
The child escaped the facility in the morning and informed his family of the incident.
Later, locals formed a human chain demanding justice, while the victim’s mother reportedly confronted the teacher before police arrived, said the OC.
Meanwhile, Madrasa’s Board President Saiful Islam said, "We will not take responsibility for this. The accused teacher has been handed over to the police."
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment.
