Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has said that when the military and civil administration work together, even the most difficult tasks can be accomplished successfully, adding that the recent national election stands as proof of this cooperation.

He also said that never before in Bangladesh’s history had an election of such high standard been held.

He made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking as a special guest at the Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) Conference held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital. The chiefs of the Navy and Air Force, along with the Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser, also spoke at the event.

The Army Chief said, “I thank and congratulate you. You have presented the nation with an excellent election. We were by your side, but the responsibility for organizing it was entirely yours.”

He added that at one point, a situation of both hope and despair had emerged in the country, with many suggesting that the election might not take place. “But we proved them wrong and brought the country back to a democratic process. This is no small achievement.”

Addressing the deputy commissioners, he assured that the army would continue to provide prompt assistance whenever needed. He said that if relevant army formations were informed, they would respond immediately.

He further said the military remains ready to assist in any situation, including natural disasters, accidents, or other emergencies.
