Four people, including a father and his daughter, were killed in separate road accidents in the capital on Friday night.
A father and daughter died at the Science Lab intersection, while an auto-rickshaw driver and a passenger were killed in Tejgaon after their vehicle overturned.
Police said Saju Ahmed Sumon, an office assistant at the Public Works Department, had gone out for Eid shopping with his only daughter, 23-year-old Sithi. After finishing their shopping, they were returning home on a motorcycle.
At around 9pm, when they reached the Science Lab intersection, a sand-laden truck hit their motorcycle. Sumon died on the spot. Locals rushed Sithi to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared her dead.
In another incident, Harunur Rashid Sani was returning home with his family in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw after Eid shopping. When the auto-rickshaw was taking a U-turn at the Saat Rasta intersection, it crashed into the road island.
Locals took the injured to DMCH, where doctors declared Harunur Rashid Sani and auto-rickshaw driver Alim dead.
Sources at the DMCH police outpost said Sani’s wife and his sister were seriously injured and are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue.
Police from the respective stations have been informed and are taking legal action regarding the accidents.
