Inflation rises to 9.13% in Feb, highest in 10 months

Inflation in Bangladesh edged up to 9.13% in February 2026, marking the highest level in nine months, according to the latest data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The general inflation rate on a point-to-point basis increased from 8.58% in January, indicating renewed pressure on household expenses after several months of gradual easing.

The February figure is the highest since April 2025, when inflation stood at 9.17%, meaning prices have again crossed the 9% threshold after remaining below that level for eight consecutive months.

Economists say the latest increase was primarily driven by a rise in food prices. Food inflation climbed to 9.3% in February, up from 8.29% in January, reflecting higher costs of essential commodities.

Non-food inflation also increased during the month. It rose to 9.01% in February, compared with 8.81% in the previous month, indicating continued pressure from housing, transport and other non-food expenses.

Despite the month-to-month increase, the overall inflation rate remains slightly lower than the level recorded a year earlier. In February 2025, general inflation stood at 9.32%, while food inflation was 9.24% and non-food inflation 9.38%, according to BBS data.

The latest figures highlight that while inflationary pressure has moderated compared with the peak levels seen in 2024 and early 2025, price increases continue to weigh on consumers and remain well above the government’s desired level.
