A total of 245 flights have been cancelled from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport over the past seven days due to temporary airspace closures in several Middle Eastern countries amid regional security concerns.
Since February 28, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan have temporarily closed their airspace citing security risks arising from the ongoing Middle East tensions, directly affecting flight operations in and out of Dhaka.
According to Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), flight cancellations from Dhaka included 23 on February 28, 40 on March 1, 46 on March 2, 39 on March 3, 28 on March 4 and 36 on March 5.
On Friday (March 6), a total of 33 flights were cancelled, affecting flights to Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain as well as services operated by Jazeera Airways, Air Arabia from Sharjah, Fly Dubai, US-Bangla Airlines, Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Emirates Airlines.
With Friday’s cancellations, the total number of flights cancelled over the past seven days has reached 245.
