A Dhaka court has acquitted cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana Tammi in a case involving allegations of enticing away another man's wife, adultery, and defamation.
The verdict was delivered on Wednesday (10 June) by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam. Both Nasir and Tamima were present in court when the judgment was announced.
In the verdict, the court stated that the charges brought against the accused under various sections of the Penal Code were not proven beyond reasonable doubt, leading to their acquittal.
Earlier, on 6 May, the court had fixed the date for delivering the verdict after hearing arguments from both sides. During the hearing, plaintiff's lawyer Ishrat Hasan sought the maximum punishment for the accused. In contrast, defence lawyer Azizur Rahman Dulu argued that Nasir and Tamima were innocent and requested their acquittal.
The case was filed on 24 February 2021 by Tamima's former husband, Rakib Hasan, in a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.
