Following the massive success of "Hawa", director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon took a lengthy break before returning with his second feature film, "Roid". The film has already struck a chord with audiences in Bangladesh, earning widespread praise from cinema lovers across the country.
Now, "Roid" is set to cross borders, with Bioscope Films gearing up to release the film in nearly 50 cities across the United States and Canada.
The release marks the 55th international distribution venture for Bioscope Films, a noted distributor of Bangla cinema worldwide. Speaking about the film's overseas release, Raj Hameed, head of Bioscope Films, said, “Over the past few years, we have gradually built a dedicated audience among the Bangladeshi diaspora. As our 55th film, we are also trying to fulfil all the criteria necessary to submit ‘Roid’ for the Oscar qualifying round. And what more can I say about Mejbaur Rahman Sumon? He is a master maker. His filmmaking is remarkably poetic. People from various cities have already been reaching out, eagerly waiting to watch his latest film.”
Reflecting on the film's release in North America, director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon said, “I can never ask people to come and watch my films. However, I am grateful to those who do and share their feelings afterwards. ‘Roid’ is a very simple film. It is a love story. The rest is for audiences to judge after watching it.”
The film's central character is portrayed by Nazifa Tushi. Speaking about the upcoming release in the United States and Canada, the actress said, “I dedicated a long period of my career exclusively to this film, and audiences have already seen that commitment reflected on screen. I hope viewers in the United States and Canada will be equally captivated.”
"Roid" is scheduled to begin its theatrical run across the United States and Canada in the final week of June.
The film has been produced by Bongo BD and Facecard, while Kolahall Communication serves as its digital consultant. The international release is being handled by Bioscope Films.
