After 27 years of uncertainty and longing, a young man has finally regained his paternal identity through a DNA test facilitated by the District Legal Aid Office in Chattogram, marking an emotional and remarkable resolution to a decades-long struggle.
According to sources, the man's father was living abroad when he was born nearly 27 years ago. Shortly afterward, his parents divorced, and his mother later remarried. As a result, the child grew up at his maternal uncle's home, deprived of knowing his biological father's identity for most of his life.
Seeking recognition of his parentage, the young man filed a complaint with the District Legal Aid Office, Chattogram, in 2024. In response, the alleged father stated that he would not acknowledge him as his son without a DNA test.
This led to a lengthy legal and social process. With the assistance of the District Legal Aid Office and two panel lawyers, DNA samples were collected from the mother, father, and son for testing.
On Tuesday, authorities from Chattogram Medical College Hospital submitted the DNA test report to the District Legal Aid Office. The report confirmed with 99.99 percent certainty that the individuals were biologically father and son.
As part of the settlement, the father formally agreed to recognize the young man as his son. He stated that his son would now reside in a room on the ground floor of his residence. He also expressed his intention to introduce him publicly as his son before local residents following Friday prayers at the neighborhood mosque. Furthermore, the son will be legally entitled to his father's inheritance rights.
Adding to the joy of the successful mediation, the District Legal Aid Office presented T-shirts as gifts to both father and son. The gesture deeply moved them, and they expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Legal Aid Office and the officials involved in resolving the matter.
The case brought an end to years of uncertainty, emotional hardship, and an identity crisis, allowing the young man to finally find his rightful place and family recognition.
The mediation process was led by Subrata Das, District Legal Aid Officer of Chattogram, whose efforts played a key role in achieving the successful resolution.
