A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against model and actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alisan Chowdhury in a case filed over allegations of embezzlement, fraud, and criminal intimidation.
Court sources confirmed on Sunday that the siblings were scheduled to appear before the Executive Magistrate Court-3 on 10 November. As they failed to comply, Magistrate Afroza Tania issued arrest warrants against both. The court has also fixed 18 December for the submission of the arrest execution report.
According to the case documents, the complainant, Amirul Islam, claimed that Mehazabien, taking advantage of a long-standing acquaintance, persuaded him to invest in her “new family business” as a partner. Through cash payments and bKash transactions made on different dates, he allegedly handed over Tk27 lakh to the actress.
However, despite repeated assurances, no steps were taken to initiate the promised business venture. When the complainant approached the actress and her brother for repayment, they allegedly delayed the matter, saying “tomorrow” or “soon”, but never returned the money.
The complaint further states that on 11 February, Mehazabien and Alisan summoned him to a restaurant near Hatirjheel. There, accompanied by 4–5 unidentified individuals, they reportedly hurled abuses at him and threatened him with dire consequences.
According to the complaint, they warned: “Do not come to our house for money again. If we see you near our house, we will kill you.” The complainant says he feared for his life following the threats.
After visiting Vatara Police Station for assistance, the complainant was advised to file the matter in court. Subsequently, he lodged a case under Sections 107/117(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure at the Executive Magistrate Court.
The court will next review the progress of the arrest warrants in December.
