Four leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami met with the Election Commission (EC) members, including Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, this afternoon to discuss preparations for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.
The meeting began shortly after 12:00pm at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The delegation was led by Jamaat's Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Md Abdullah Taher and included AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, and Matiur Rahman Akand.
According to sources, the discussion covered various recommendations and issues raised by Jamaat during its earlier talks with the National Consensus Commission, as well as overall electoral preparedness.
Speaking before the meeting, Jamaat leader and president of the Bangladesh Lawyers Council, Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, said, "The election is approaching. The meeting will focus on overall preparations. We will brief the media after the discussion."
The Election Commission is preparing to hold the national election in the first half of February next year, before the month of Ramadan.
The election schedule is expected to be announced in early December.
Meanwhile, political parties reached a consensus in July to hold a referendum on the proposed national charter, alongside discussions on electoral reforms and campaign guidelines.
