The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over 16 Bangladeshi nationals to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through a flag meeting held at the Taluigachha border point in Satkhira. Later, the BGB turned them over to Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
According to the general diary filed by the 33rd Battalion of BGB, which was shared with police, Satkhira Sadar Police Station Investigation Officer Shafiqul Islam confirmed the information to journalists.
He said that on Friday around 10 p.m., BSF personnel detained 16 Bangladeshis from Hakimpur in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal after they had crossed the border illegally.
The detainees were identified as Md Mosharaf Dhali, his wife Muslima Khatun, daughter Sinha Khatun, and son Morsalim Gazi of Atulia village in Shyamnagar upazila; Rifat Hossain of Kashimari village; Shahinuzzaman of Khutikata village; Sharmin Sultana and her three-year-old daughter Sumaiya Akter of Chandipur; Fatema Khatun and her son Md Farjan Nabil; Al Amin; Rubina Khatun; Md Jillur Rahman of Bedkashi village in Khulna’s Koyra upazila; and Jharna Parvin and Md Ashikuzzaman of Parsemari village in the same upazila.
The formal handover took place around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday (October 11) through a flag meeting between BSF Amudia Company Commander Inspector Bikash Kumar and BGB Taluigachha BOP Commander Nayek Subedar Abul Kashem under the Satkhira Battalion.
Later that night, at around 11:30 p.m., the BGB handed the 16 individuals over to Satkhira Sadar Police Station through an official general diary entry.
Investigation Officer Shafiqul Islam further said that on Sunday morning, after verifying their identities, all 16 were released to their legal guardians.
