'Agni Shravan' staged in context of the student uprising

Against the backdrop of political unrest and the enduring legacy of youth-led uprisings, Bhoirobee returns to the stage with Agni Shrabon — a stirring new theatrical production that explores the cycles of power, protest, and the human yearning for peace.

Premiering held on June 27 and 28 at 7:00 PM at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the play is part of a broader cultural initiative supported by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, aimed at using the arts as a mirror to the nation’s evolving socio-political consciousness. Both shows are free and open to the public.

Written and directed by Eleas Nobi Faisal, Agni Shrabon is a powerful theatrical journey that reveals the recurring cycle of oppression across regimes. It tells the story of how rulers may change, yet the fate of the common people remains shackled by exploitation and injustice. With poetic symbolism and raw emotion, the production raises a compelling voice against the inhuman repetition of history — daring to dream of a different, more just future.

The play weaves together stories of rights, resistance, and remembrance. From the Tebhaga Movement to the defining moments of 1947, 1952, 1969, 1971, and the continuing struggles from 1990 through 2024, Agni Shrabon transforms time itself into a living, breathing character on stage.

“Agni Shrabon is a story of people’s liberation,” says director Eleas Nobi Faisal.
“This production speaks of the historical fights for justice — and how, despite changes in power, the people’s suffering continues. Theatre, to us, is not merely entertainment. It is a tool for change.”

This timeless reflection underscores the spirit of Agni Shrabon, which dares to imagine a break in the relentless cycle — where protest becomes poetry, and theatre becomes a weapon of remembrance and resistance.

The ensemble cast includes:
Arpita, Aparajita, Atanu, Ayra, Biplob, Dhrubo, Deepto, Fahmida, Ikra, Rajib, Nandita, Parmita, Pritom, Nodi, Lamia, Sifat, Soha, Ankon, Swapnil, Tomo, Protyasha, Rommo, Orthi, Nobel, Riya, Jitu, Arif, Ayreen, Himel, Ishaan, Atisha, Jyoti, Nazmul, Pinaki, Falguni, and Partho.

Assistant Director & Music Composer: Deepto Sen.

Sound Design & Dramaturgy: Dhrubo Byapari, Hridoy Ghosh Rajib, Jinnatul Islam Protyasha.

Set & Costume Design: Atanu and Ayra Mou.

While the play reflects the disorientation of political flux, it also searches for resolution — not through overt messaging, but through evocative theatrical expression. Movement, rhythm, abstraction, and raw emotion converge to make Agni Shrabon a collective journey through the fire of history and the hope of transformation.
