German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Rüdiger Lotz met Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor A B M Obaidul Islam and discussed ways to strengthen academic and research cooperation between the university and German institutions.
The ambassador paid a courtesy call on the vice-chancellor at his office on Wednesday, 30 September, according to a press release issued by the University of Dhaka.
During the meeting, they discussed student and faculty exchanges, scholarships, joint research and skills development.
The vice-chancellor briefed the German ambassador on the university’s academic and research activities and its efforts to expand international collaboration.
He stressed the importance of increasing cooperation with German higher education institutions through joint research, academic exchange programmes and scholarship opportunities for students and researchers.
Obaidul Islam also highlighted the university’s initiatives to improve foreign-language education and strengthen industry-academia linkages so that students can acquire practical skills and knowledge in line with changing job market demands.
Ambassador Lotz appreciated the academic and research activities of the University of Dhaka and discussed opportunities for Bangladeshi students and researchers to pursue higher education and research in Germany.
He also emphasised the importance of making university education more responsive to industry needs and developing skilled human resources.
The ambassador discussed the growing demand for skilled professionals in Germany and possible opportunities for international students through higher education, training and scholarship programmes.
The meeting also covered possible cooperation in skills development, scholarships, student and faculty mobility, industry-academia collaboration and joint academic initiatives.
Both sides expressed hope that the existing ties between the University of Dhaka and German institutions would be further strengthened through increased cooperation in education, research and skills development.
