File PhotoThe price of gold in Bangladesh went up on Wednesday morning following two consecutive downward revisions.
According to a notification by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association, the price of 22-carat gold increased by Tk 2,216 a bhari to Tk 2,30,772, including value-added tax.
The latest increase came after the association cut the price of 22-carat gold by the same amount to Tk 2,28,556 on Tuesday and by Tk 2,158 a bhari to Tk 2,30,772 on Monday.
The BAJUS has said the latest adjustment follows changes in the local market price of refined gold.
Under the revised rates, price of 21-carat gold rose to Tk 2,20,391 a bhari, while that of 18-carat gold to Tk 1,89,248 a bhari.
Gold produced through the traditional method now costs Tk 1,54,606 a bhari.
With Wednesday’s revision, the BAJUS has adjusted gold prices 120 times so far this year, including 59 increases, 60 decreases and one adjustment related to VAT.
However, the association kept silver prices unchanged on Wednesday.
The price of 22-carat silver remains at Tk 4,315 a bhari, including VAT, while that of 21-carat, 18-carat and traditional-method silver at Tk 4,140, Tk 3,557 and Tk 2,682 a bhari respectively.
