The District Detective Branch (DB) police arrested three members of an organized robbery gang in Joypurhat while they were preparing to commit a robbery, seizing locally made weapons and various tools.
They were arrested red-handed on Wednesday afternoon from a secluded area near the Chakshyam Bridge in Joypurhat Sadar Upazila.
The arrested accused are Raihan Hossain (26), son of Mozaffar Hossain from the Chakshyam area of Joypurhat Sadar Upazila; Saidul Islam (38), son of the late Akbar Ali from the East Dhanmondi area; and Sumon Hossain (30), son of the late Abdus Samad from the Matharpara area of Saghata Upazila, Gaibandha.
According to the Detective Branch (DB) police, the arrested gang had been carrying out robberies and criminal activities across various parts of the district for a long time. On Wednesday afternoon, they had gathered at a secluded spot near Chakshyam Bridge to prepare for a robbery. A DB police team arrested them after conducting a raid based on a tip-off.
During this time, the following items were recovered: one locally made weapon, one Chinese axe, one bolt cutter, one locally made hasua (billhook), one bamboo stick, one hacksaw blade, four iron rods, and one piece of plastic rope (29.4 feet long).
Confirming the incident, Asaduzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Joypurhat District Detective Branch (DB) police, stated that the process of taking legal action including filing cases against the arrested individuals under relevant laws is currently underway.
