Dr. S. M. Ziauddin Haider, the Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Health Affairs (holding the rank of State Minister), has announced plans to transform Jhalakathi town into a clean, green, and eco-friendly area, while also developing the Dhansiri Eco-Village into an attractive and pleasant recreational hub for people of all ages—including children and the elderly. He noted that planned tree planting would not only help maintain environmental balance and boost green coverage but also create opportunities to increase coconut production.
He made these remarks on Thursday morning (September 17) while participating in a coconut sapling planting program following his visit to the Dhansiri Eco-Village in Jhalakathi.
During the visit, Dr. Ziauddin Haider toured various parts of the eco-village. He subsequently inaugurated the tree-planting drive by planting 200 coconut saplings. The program was implemented under the initiative of the District Administration with the cooperation of the Jhalakathi Municipality.
Dr. Ziauddin Haider said, "Planting coconut saplings in a planned manner will help maintain environmental balance and increase greenery. At the same time, it will create opportunities to boost future coconut production."
He added, "I want to make Jhalakathi town clean and eco-friendly. I also aim to create a beautiful and pleasant environment at the Dhansiri Eco-Village for everyone, including children and the elderly."
This program in Jhalakathi was implemented as part of a broader plan to plant one lakh (100,000) coconut saplings across the Barishal Division over five years. These saplings will be planted in various areas of the division in phases.
Attendees at the event included Deputy Commissioner Md. Momin Uddin, Superintendent of Police Marine Sultana, District Council Administrator Advocate Shahadat Hossain, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Municipal Administrator Julia Sukaina, Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) S. M. Mehedi Hasan, and District Jubo Dal Convener Shamim Talukdar, alongside officials from various government departments and political leaders.
