File PhotoThe government has issued the gazette notification on the new pay and allowances for government officials and employees.
The Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance issued the notification on Saturday, announcing the implementation of the ninth national pay scale.
The revised salaries will take effect from July, according to the notification.
Additionally, from January 1 to June 30, 2027, officers in Grade 9 and above will receive 70 percent of the increased basic salary under the new structure, while officers and employees in Grades 10 through 20 will receive 75 percent.
The full salary increase will come into effect on July 1, 2027. Since the new pay structure is effective from July 1 of the current year, officers and employees will also receive salary arrears.
The notification further states that government officers and employees will begin receiving all other allowances under the new pay structure starting January 1, 2028. Similarly, pension beneficiaries will also receive all benefits associated with the new pay structure.
Under the new pay structure, the basic salary of officers in Grades 1 to 10 will increase by up to 100 percent, while the basic salary of government employees in Grades 11 to 20 will rise by up to 142 percent. Various allowances will also increase on a pro-rata basis.
Salary fixation and subsequent payments will be carried out in accordance with the other provisions of the ‘Service (Pay and Allowances) Order, 2026’.
The notification has been published as S.R.O. No. 347-Ain/2026 in an extraordinary issue of the Bangladesh Gazette. This marks the beginning of the formal process to implement the long-awaited new national pay scale.
Earlier, the new pay structure was approved during a cabinet meeting held on August 31, presided over by Prime Minister Tareq Rahman. It has now been issued as a formal notification.
