Election Commissioner (EC) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah said that the local government Union Parishad (UP) elections must be completed before June 6 next year.He said this after an inter-ministerial meeting at the conference room of the Election Commission Secretariat on Thursday afternoon. However, the Election Commissioner could not finalize the voting date in the meeting.
The Election Commissioner said that due to various examinations, the Election Commission may have to move away from the possible schedule of the elections. The number of voting stages may also be reduced. However, the local government Union Parishad elections must be completed before June 6.
He also said, “Care will be taken so that the examinations are not disrupted. The final date of the elections will be announced as soon as possible. There are examinations in November and December. And vaccination process in January. After that, there is month of Ramadan. We will sit in a few rounds. The voting date will be finalized in the commission meeting.”
