At least four people were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a cargo truck in Bogura’s Kahaloo upazila on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred at around 10:00am in the Kazipara area on the Bogura–Naogaon regional highway, police said.
One of the victims was identified as Lutfar Rahman, 50, a fish trader from Raghabpur village in Mymensingh Sadar upazila. The other three victims had not been identified immediately.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kahaloo Police Station Shafiqul Islam said that a pickup from Mymensingh was returning to Naogaon after selling fish. On around 10 am, while overtaking another vehicle on the highway in the Kazipara area, it collided head-on with a Naogaon-bound cargo truck. The front part of the pickup was twisted and the driver, helper and two fish traders were dead on the spot.
The driver, helper, of the truck fled immediately after the accident. The accident caused a traffic jam on the highway. Kahaloo Police Station and Fire Service personnel removed the truck and pickup that had been involved in the accident and recovered the bodies of the four people.
The OC said that information has been sent to the family of the deceased Lutfar Rahman. Efforts are being made to identify the other three deceased.
