Nine more children died from measles and measles-related symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, according to the latest report of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the deaths, three were confirmed measles cases while six children died with measles-related symptoms, the report said on Tuesday. During the same period, 1,192 children were newly infected.
According to DGHS data, a total of 424 children have died from measles and related symptoms nationwide over the past one and a half months. Among them, 68 deaths were confirmed as measles infections, while 356 children died with measles-related symptoms.
During the period, 7,024 children were confirmed to have contracted measles through laboratory tests, while 51,567 children with measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals.
The highest number of infections and deaths was recorded in the Dhaka division, where 186 children died from measles and suspected measles infections and 27,932 children were infected.
The statistics cover the period from 8am on 15 March to 8am on 12 May.
