Bangladesh has received another 7,000 tonnes of diesel from India through the pipeline in the third consignment this month.
The fuel reached the railhead oil depot at Parbatipur in Dinajpur via the receipt terminal of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline project.
Kazi Robiul Alam, Manager (Operations) of Meghna Petroleum Limited, confirmed the development to the media on Thursday.
Diesel pumping from Numaligarh Refinery Limited began around 8:00pm on 20 April. The fuel takes approximately 65 to 70 hours to reach Parbatipur through the pipeline.
Earlier on 19 April, another 5,000 tonnes of diesel arrived from the same refinery via the pipeline.
With the latest shipment, a total of 13,000 tonnes of diesel has been imported through the pipeline this month, bringing the total for the year to 35,000 tonnes.
Authorities plan to import 25,000 tonnes of diesel from India in four consignments during April. Of these, 8,000 tonnes arrived on 11 April and 5,000 tonnes on 19 April.
Before that, a total of 22,000 tonnes of diesel had been imported in four consignments via the pipeline up to March this year.
The imported fuel is received at the Parbatipur depot and later distributed to state-owned companies—Padma, Meghna, and Jamuna—for nationwide supply.
