State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has attributed the recent fuel crisis primarily to negligence by oil marketing companies, stating that directives from the Energy Division were not properly implemented in many cases.
While speaking at a seminar organized by the Geological Survey of Bangladesh at the BIAM Auditorium in the capital, he said, "The long queues of vehicles at fuel stations were partly due to 'artificial' causes, suggesting that there may have been political motives behind the situation."
He also acknowledged shortcomings within the system, noting that officials had failed to perform their duties effectively.
"If everyone had done their job properly, these queues would not have occurred. Now, there are no such lines," Iqbal Hasan added.
He said that he has spent the past 75 days since assuming office focusing heavily on the power and energy sectors. He also mentioned that he is now beginning to engage with his other portfolio--mineral resources-- for the first time.
