Election Commission has declared the nomination of Nusrat Tabassum valid for a reserved women’s seat, marking a significant development following earlier legal proceedings.
Returning Officer Md. Moin Uddin Khan confirmed the decision on Saturday at around 12:00 PM after completing the scrutiny of nomination papers at Election Commission building.
He said the nomination has been found valid and will be formally announced after completion of official procedures.
He added that the remaining formalities would be completed shortly, after which an official declaration would be made.
Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) is also expected to brief the media at the commission’s media centre.
Earlier, on April 27, the High Court Division directed authorities to accept Nusrat Tabassum’s nomination paper.
Following the order, it was accepted on April 29, and May 2 was set for scrutiny.
A formal notice regarding the process was sent to the candidate by the returning officer.
According to the notice, the scrutiny was conducted in line with the schedule for the 13th parliamentary elections for reserved women’s seats, allowing the candidate, her proposer and supporter to be present during the process.
Previously, on April 21, the returning officer had refused to accept her nomination paper as it was submitted after the 4:00 PM deadline.
Nusrat Tabassum then sought legal remedy, prompting the court to order the Election Commission to accept her nomination and proceed according to the law.
