Leaders of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti detained a suspended activist of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League from the TSC area of Dhaka University last evening and handed him over to Shahbagh Police Station.
The detained activist was identified as M Sakib, a student of the Philosophy Department from the 2021–22 academic session and a resident of Bijoy Ekattor Hall at Dhaka University.
He was also suspended from the university for allegedly taking in violence on the campus on July 15, 2024.
Confirming the incident, Shahbagh Police Station Duty Officer Raihan Uddin said, “If his name appears in any case, he will be arrested in that case. Otherwise, we will decide the next course of action.”
Nazimuddin Saif, deputy office secretary of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti’s DU unit, who was present at the scene, said, “While we were at TSC today, we noticed a young man whom we recognised as one of those involved in the July 15 attack.”
He added, “A few of us were sitting together, and some students from the Philosophy Department who were with us recognised him. After speaking with him, we learned that he had come to campus for an academic matter. We then handed him over to the proctorial team, who later shifted him to the police station.”
