A young man was killed in a lightning strike in Rajbari on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred around 6:45am in Majjatkol village under Mizanpur Union of Rajbari Sadar upazila.

The deceased, Suman Mandal (35), was the son of Siddiq Mandal of the same village.

According to his friend Mofizul Islam Rubel, Suman had previously worked at an NGO but had recently left his job and was staying at home.

In the morning, he went out to a nearby shop with his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter Safia in his arms. Suddenly, lightning struck the area. The powerful strike threw the child from his arms, while Suman collapsed on the ground.

Family members rushed him to Rajbari Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His daughter reportedly suffered minor bleeding from the nose and ears but is now in stable condition.

Mizanpur Union Parishad Administrator and Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Jony Khan said the sudden death has cast a deep shadow of grief over the area.

Rajbari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Uttam Kumar Ghosh confirmed the incident, saying police teams were sent to the scene after receiving information.
