At least three people, including a child, were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram last night.
The accident occurred around 11:30pm in the Banshertol area under Nageshwari municipality, police said.
The deceased were identified as Sadia Akter, 8, of Asadmor Uttar Tilai village in Bhurungamari upazila; Nurnabi Islam, 28, of the same area; and Limon Islam, 28, of Dhaldanga village. Limon was driving the microbus.
At least 10 others were injured, some critically, and were admitted to Nageshwari Upazila Health Complex, Kurigram District Hospital, and Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Nageshwari Police Station Abdullah Hil Zaman confirmed the incident.
According to police and locals, a truck coming from Bhurungamari collided head-on with a passenger-carrying microbus coming from Kurigram.
Two people died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries after being taken to a local hospital.
The OC said panic spread after a loud crash, prompting locals to rush to the spot and rescue the injured from the mangled vehicles. Police later recovered the bodies from the scene.
“Among the deceased are two men and a child. The cause of the accident is being investigated. No one has been arrested yet,” said the OC.
