9 more children die from measles, symptoms

Nine more children died from measles and related symptoms in the 24 hours till Tuesday morning, taking the total death toll past 270 since 15 March.

During 8am Monday-8am Tuesday, three children died from confirmed measles infection and six others from suspected measles or measles symptoms, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

All the measles deaths were reported in Dhaka Division, and among the suspected measles deaths two were reported in the division. Two deaths from suspected measles were recorded in Barishal Division, one in Rajshahi Division and one in Sylhet Division.

Over the same 24-hour period, 163 people were diagnosed with confirmed measles, and 1,276 others with suspected measles or measles symptoms.

Since 15 March, 34,662 people have been infected with measles symptoms, among whom 23,348 children have been hospitalised and 19,991 children were released following recovery.

Since 15 March, 4,856 children have been diagnosed with confirmed measles infections.
