Hundreds of workers from Nassa Group, located in the Cumilla EPZ, blocked the Dhaka-Chattogram highway this morning (7 April), demanding the payment of their outstanding wages.
The blockade began at around 10am in the Paduar Bazar area, resulting in a massive tailback on both sides of the busy route.
Earlier, workers held a procession from the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) area and later gathered on the highway.
The demonstrators occupied the road, halting vehicular movement on both lanes of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. As a result, long tailbacks formed, causing immense suffering for commuters and transport operators.
Police rushed to the scene and were trying to bring the situation under control through discussions with the workers.
However, at the time of filing this report, the workers remained on the highway, and the traffic situation remained chaotic.
