Four people have been killed and at least 10 others injured after a passenger bus lost control and overturned in a roadside ditch in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The accident occurred around 12:00pm on Monday (8 June) at the Baisamora area under Shahbazpur union along the Dhaka–Sylhet highway. The identities of the deceased and injured could not be confirmed immediately.
According to highway police and local sources, a local passenger bus was travelling along the highway when the driver reportedly lost control in the Baisamora area. The vehicle suddenly veered off the road and fell into a deep roadside ditch, overturning on impact. Four passengers died on the spot and several others were injured.
On receiving information, police from Khatihata Highway Police Station and Fire Service personnel, with the help of locals, rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation.
Officer-in-Charge of Khatihata Highway Police Station Abu Taher said a passenger bus of “Diganta Paribahan” was travelling from Madhabpur bus stand in Habiganj towards Medda bus stand in Brahmanbaria town. On the way, the bus reportedly lost control after being pressured by a truck coming from the opposite direction in the Baisamora area and fell into a ditch, killing four passengers instantly.
Duty doctor Nazmul Sarkar at Brahmanbaria 250-bed General Hospital said no bodies had yet been brought to the hospital. “Six injured have been admitted and are receiving treatment. All are out of danger,” he added.
