Hundreds of workers of NASSA Group blocked the Mohakhali-Tejgaon road in Dhaka this afternoon, demanding payment of overdue wages. The blockade caused severe traffic congestion in the area.
The protest began around 4:00pm, said Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station.
Speaking to reporters, the OC said the company has remained closed and its workers have yet to receive one month's salary.
Around 500 workers joined the demonstration and later occupied the road, disrupting vehicular movement along the busy road and triggering long tailbacks on adjoining roads.
Police were deployed to the spot and were trying to persuade the workers to leave the road.
As of 5:30pm, the demonstration was continuing and vehicular movement on the road remained suspended, Mahbubur said.
