Moshiur Rahman Khan Samrat, widely known as “Psycho Samrat” who is accused of a series of brutal killings in Savar, has died.
He was declared dead around 7:30am yesterday at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)
Confirming the matter, Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Operations) Md Helal Uddin said the prison authorities informed them that Samrat, who had been lodged at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, suddenly experienced severe chest pain early Monday.
He was rushed to DMCH where doctors declared him dead in the morning.
According to police, Samrat was allegedly involved in at least seven killings between 2025 and 2026 in Savar. Investigators found that he used an abandoned community centre in the Savar municipality area as a “death trap”, luring victims there before killing them.
CCTV footage showing him carrying victims’ bodies on his shoulders later emerged as crucial evidence in the investigation, police said.
Law enforcement agencies arrested him in January 2026. Five cases had been filed against him with Savar Model Police Station. Police also said they obtained confessional statements and other evidence, including CCTV footage, in connection with the cases.
Officer-in-Charge of Louhajang Police Station Md Monirul Islam said they learned about Samrat’s death through Facebook and had not received any official communication from the prison authorities, possibly because his listed address was in Savar.
