US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen held talks with business and civil society leaders in Chattogram during a two-day tour, urging stronger economic, commercial and overall bilateral ties between the two countries.
Christensen visited the district for the first time during 26-27 January, said a press release issued Tuesday.
At Chattogram Port, Christensen marked the arrival of nearly 60,000 tonnes of high-quality US wheat, underscoring burgeoning trade between American farmers and Bangladeshi agricultural importers.
He then met with US agricultural commodity importers to champion the superior quality of American agricultural products, and to discuss trade and shipping challenges.
The ambassador then toured BSRM Steel and Pahartali Textile Mills – both long-time users of US inputs – underscoring how American innovation contributes to Bangladesh’s industrial growth.
At Premier University, Ambassador Christensen visited the new American Corner and met with Chattogram City Mayor Shahadat Hossain and Premier University Vice Chancellor SM Nasrul Quadir. He also spoke with alumni of US government exchange programs.
At the Chattogram War Cemetery, Ambassador Christensen honoured the legacy of American Pilot Officer William B Rice, who died in World War II.
