5 killed in Bogura road accident

Five passengers of a battery-powered auto-rickshaw were killed after being hit by a truck in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura on Friday night.

The accident occurred around 8:15 pm on the Naogaon-Bogura regional road adjacent to the upazila's bus stand.

The dead are Mozahar, 60, and Shafiqul Islam, 45, of Baniyadighi village in Dupchanchia upazila, Shahidul Islam, 60, of Boro Akira area in Adamdighi upazila, Mejbah, 32, of Majhipara village in Dupchanchia and auto-rickshaw driver Moen Sardar, 55, of Dipuil village.

According to police and locals, a truck loaded with cattle was heading towards Bogura from Naogaon. It collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw while passing Dupchanchia Mail Bus Stand area. Four people died on the spot. Another died after being taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

Dupchanchia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faridul Islam said that among the deceased were an auto-rickshaw driver and four workers from a local tiles factory. They were returning home after work. The bodies of the four people who died on the spot are currently at Dupchanchia Police Station. The body of the other is at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.
