Saima Wazed PutulThe Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge sheet against Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in a case involving allegations that she used false information and forged credentials to secure her appointment as the World Health Organization’s (WHO) regional director for South-East Asia.ACC Secretary Saidur Rahman Khan disclosed the decision while briefing journalists on Sunday.
According to the case statement, Putul allegedly abused her power and committed fraud and forgery to obtain the position of regional director of the WHO’s South-East Asia Regional Office.
The ACC alleged that she submitted false information about her professional credentials in her application for the position in 2023.
According to the commission, Putul falsely claimed to have been involved in teaching and reviewing educational manuals at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), now known as Bangladesh Medical University.
In her application, she reportedly described herself as an “Honorary Specialist/Expert at BSMMU (2022–Present),” providing technical expertise on autism spectrum disorder and mental health and reviewing manuals for the care and management of developmental disorders.
However, university authorities reportedly told investigators that she had never held such a position or participated in academic or research activities related to the development of the manuals.
The ACC filed the case against Putul on March 20, 2025, accusing her of providing false information and using forged documents to secure the WHO position.
Putul resigned as WHO regional director in September 2026 amid investigations into allegations of fraud and forgery. She has denied wrongdoing, according to media reports.
