Nahida AkterBangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed left-arm spinner Nahida Akter as captain of the women’s T20 International (T20I) team, replacing Nigar Sultana Joty, who has stepped down from the role to focus on her individual performance.Sobhana Mostary has been named vice-captain of the T20I side, BCB women’s wing chairman Rafiqul Islam told reporters on Sunday (October 18).
“We sat with members of the selection panel along with others and decided to appoint Nahida as the T20I captain. Sobhana Mostary will be her deputy,” he said.
Nahida has served as Joty’s deputy since Joty took over as T20I captain in 2022. The BCB considers this an appropriate time to hand Nahida the leadership role after several years as vice-captain.
Joty will continue to lead Bangladesh in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). She recently captained the team in a three-match ODI series against Australia.
Bangladesh’s next international assignment is the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand. The team is scheduled to begin its campaign against Pakistan on November 12.
