Content creator Salman Mohammad Muqtadir has alleged that his studio was attacked and vandalised over an extortion-related dispute involving the owner of the property where his studio is located.
The incident took place at New Green Properties in the ECB Chattar area of Dhaka on Saturday night, according to Salman.
He later posted a video of the vandalised studio on his verified Facebook page.
In the video, Salman showed the damaged studio and said, ‘A little while ago, there was an attack here … our entire studio has been destroyed in this attack.’
The video showed parts of the studio vandalised, with chairs, tables, a television and other furniture and equipment damaged. Several studio employees were also seen crying.
Addressing home minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Salman said, ‘This video is made especially for our home minister Salahuddin Ahmed. Please don't take any tension, this is normal in Bangladesh.’
He later said the attackers might not have known that the property belonged to him and that he was caught in the incident as an ordinary citizen.
According to Salman, the property owner may have been involved in a dispute over extortion, and the attackers might have damaged his studio while targeting the property owner.
The landowner there is most likely ‘affiliated with the Awami League’ and had some sort of issue regarding extortion, he added.
‘So our people got caught in the middle because of their revenge. While trying to damage his property, my property got caught in the middle.’
Salman said he would continue his work despite the vandalism.
‘I will do something bigger than this,’ he said.
