Authorities in Jhalakathi have called for tougher action against drugs and corruption, while stressing transparency, accountability and better public services.The call came at a special meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Tuesday (September 15) at 3pm. The meeting discussed the district’s law and order situation, good governance, development activities and coordination among government agencies.
Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. Momin Uddin chaired the meeting. State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmed Sohel Manjur MP attended as the chief guest, while Jhalakathi-1 MP, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Religious Affairs and adviser to the District Law and Order Committee Rafiqul Islam Jamal attended as a special guest.
The meeting discussed measures to curb drug abuse and corruption and improve transparency and accountability in government offices. Officials were urged to ensure quick and hassle-free services and prevent harassment of service seekers.
Concerned officials were also asked to take action against irregularities and negligence in development projects. Speakers stressed maintaining the quality of project work, preventing the misuse of public funds and ensuring proper use of government resources.
The meeting also called for better coordination among government departments to speed up development activities. Officials were urged to give priority to public complaints and resolve them quickly while carrying out their responsibilities in accordance with the law.
Superintendent of Police Marine Sultana, District Council Chairman Advocate Shahadat Hossain, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Deputy Director of Local Government Julia Sukaina, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Kawsar Hossain, principals of government colleges, heads of different government offices, Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs), political and social leaders, and representatives of the local press attended the meeting.
