Banned AL former MP Azizul Haque detained

Police have detained former Awami League Member of Parliament Khandakar Md. Azizul Haque Arju from the capital's Mohammadpur area on Monday night.

The 69-year-old former lawmaker was apprehended around 10:30 PM in front of Meena Bazar in Lalmatia with the assistance of local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station, Md. Abdul Halim, confirmed the matter on Tuesday (September 15).

According to police, Arju sustained minor injuries during a brief scuffle at the time of his detention. Due to a preexisting heart condition, he was sent for medical evaluation accompanied by family members under police guard.

Arju, a resident of Natiyabari village in Pabna's Aminpur, was elected to parliament from the Pabna-2 constituency on an Awami League ticket in 2014.

Police stated that an investigation into pending charges is currently underway to determine the next legal steps. Authorities confirmed that the situation in the area remains normal.
